Unemployment benefit II can be received by all employable persons entitled to benefits between the ages of 15 and the statutory age limit between 65 and 67 years. Inactive beneficiaries who live with employable beneficiaries in a community of need receive social benefits, provided they are not entitled to benefits according to the fourth chapter of the twelfth book.
Unemployment benefit II and social benefit are benefits that are intended to guarantee a basic livelihood. What the individual is entitled to, the legislature has in so-called Standard needs set.

New application

The day on which you submit your application is decisive for your eventual entitlement to benefits. In principle, you cannot receive any benefits for periods before that. However, the application for benefits to secure livelihoods has a retroactive effect on the first of the month (if all other requirements are met, you can receive unemployment benefit II on the 15th of the month, for example, from the 1st of the month, despite the application). Please note that your income / assets will also be taken into account from this point in time and that a separate application must be made for certain benefits (e.g. for initial supplies in the event of pregnancy and childbirth or educational and participation benefits).

During the period in which you are not receiving any basic social security benefits, you are not insured by the responsible institution for health or long-term care. In order to avoid disadvantages, please inquire with your health insurance company about claims and rights (e.g. to voluntary continued insurance) during this time.
